ABSTRACT

Introduction-This research aimed to study the effect of Thriving and Workplace Spirituality on Innovative Work Behavior and Career Adaptability among railway employees (TC) because of the competitive environment they experience. Method- The participants were 105 railway employees between the age of 40-60 years, residing in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The purposive and snowball sampling methods were used for the study. The scales used were - Thriving at work scale (Porath et al,2012), Spirit at work scale (SAW) (Kinjersky, 2013), Innovative work behavior ( Jesson, 2009), Career Adapt Abilities Scale – short form (CAAS- SF) (Maggiori et al, 2012). The data were analyzed using 4 independent ‘t tests’. Results-Thriving had a significant effect on Innovative Work Behavior and Career Adaptability among railway employees. Thus Thriving might act as an advantage in the competitive work environment of TCs. Since Thriving cannot be developed individually as a skill, there is a need to study Workplace Spirituality. Results obtained suggest that there was no significant effect of Workplace Spirituality on Innovative Work Behavior which can be attributed to the Covid-19 situation. Later analysis shows that Workplace Spirituality has a significant effect on Career Adaptability, suggesting that the Workplace Spirituality plays will help in better career adaptability among railway employees. Conclusion- Thriving is considered to be a human aspect of sustainability which is important to produce high performance. Thus if we can enhance Workplace Spirituality for railway employees, they might experience Thriving which will eventually contribute to enhancing IWB and Career Adaptability.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To investigate the status of transition shock, career adaptation and professional identity among nursing interns, and to explore the mediating effect of professional identity on career adaptation and transition shock. Methods:In February 2022, 500 nursing students from 18 nursing colleges in Henan province and Shaanxi province were selected as the research subjects by convenient sampling method. General data questionnaire, Professional Identity Questionnaire of Nursing Students, Career Adaptability Scale of college students and Chinese version of Transition Impact Assessment Scale of Nursing Undergraduate Interns were used to conduct the questionnaire survey. Results:The career adaptability score of nursing intern was (133.59 ± 22.58); professional identity score was (63.35 ± 14.06); transition impact score was (45.18 ± 10.17). Transition shock was negatively correlated with career adaptation and professional identity ( r=-0.328, -0.484, both P<0.01). Occupational identity had a partial mediating effect on career adaptation and transition shock, accounting for 64.29% of the total effect. Conclusions:The transition shock of nursing interns is at medium level. Nursing educators can reduce the degree of transition shock by improving their professional identity to nursing and their own career adaptation, so as to better adapt to the professional role.

ABSTRACT

This research aimed to find evidence of validity for the character strengths scale (CSS), correlating it with the career adapt-abilities scale (CAAS) based on the relationship with external variables, that is, between the scores of the instruments to be used, and other variables such as age, sex and employment situation. A total of 364 respondents aged between 18 and 77 years old participated in an online survey. An important contribution of this research was regarding the employment situation, suggesting that the ability to innovate and be open to new experiences are fundamental for those who wish to remain employed. The results also infer that younger people tend to think more about their professional future than older people; however, the maturity associated with a higher level of knowledge (education) promotes a higher score among the strength of character.

ABSTRACT

Employability and career adaptability are two related constructs that are considered significant factors in career success. Career adaptability is the readiness to cope with current and anticipated career-related tasks, transitions, and changes, whereas employability is the ability to retain or obtain a job in the labor market. This paper presents a Spanish translation of the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS) and analyses the relative importance of career adaptability and employability in predicting career success (job performance and job satisfaction) in a sample of 160 young Mexican working adults. Our results supported the internal consistency and factor structure of CAAS. Relative weights and commonality analysis indicated that both constructs shared explained outcome variance, but they had different importance in predicting career outcomes. Thus, employability is still relevant despite the rising importance of career adaptability. Career adaptability should be included in employability programs, refining the two concepts into a more parsimonious measure.

Nossos resultados apoiaram a consistência interna e a estrutura fatorial do CAAS.

ABSTRACT

The contemporary work context is characterized by unpredictability, thus requiring the ability of individuals to adapt to changes imposed by the market. Career adaptability refers to the individual's ability to handle working transitions in turbulent times. This study aimed to test the structural invariance of the last Brazilian version of the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS) according to sex and observe possible differences between men and women in the dimensions of adaptability. The sample consisted of 599 Brazilian professionals, of both sexes, with higher education level. The CAAS was subject to confirmatory factor analysis and invariance testing, demonstrating structural invariance according to sex. A subsequent MANOVA evidenced the lack of differences between men and women in the four dimensions of the CAAS. Results corroborate the consistency and reliability of the CAAS as an instrument for measuring career adaptability in both sexes. (AU)

ABSTRACT

This article analyzes the epistemological, theoretical, and methodological perspectives for the concept of career adaptability within an evolutionary framework in the field of organizational and work psychology, and more specifically in the area of career counseling. The epistemological quadrants scheme suggested by Burrell and Morgan (1979) was used as reference to identify the paradigmatic changes that the career adaptability construct was assuming, since its elaboration in the '80s until the present. The article also aims to present the importance of career adaptability in the contemporary world of work, as well as the multifaceted and dynamic aspects that various studies and career counseling practice have adopted regarding the concept, from both approaches - paradigmatic and methodological.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Academic experiences, besides informing about adaptation to higher education context, have been associated to variables related to career development. In this sense, the objective of this study was to verify the correlation between career adapt-abilities and academic experiences, and the effect of course satisfaction in this correlation. The participants were 89 college students from fifth to ninth semester of a private college. These participants answered the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS) and Academic Adaptation Reduced Questionnaire (QVA-r), and also an item that valued the level of academic satisfaction. A correlation was made between the factors of the CAAS and QVA-r factors, in which there was found a positive correlation between the two instruments, from which can stand out the positive correlation and moderate Concern (CAAS) and Career (QVA-r). About the racial correlation, it was observed that the variable satisfaction with the course had an influence on some of the correlations, mainly on the Concern (CAAS) and Career (QVA-r) correlation. The results suggest that it could be assumed that the adaptation process is a variable of career. Indeed, further research would be necessary with biggers and more diverse samples.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the current status of nursing undergraduate students′ self-differentiation and career adaptability and analyze the correlation of the two, so as to provide a reference for nursing educators to offer employment guidance. Methods The Undergraduate Self-Differentiation Scale and The College Students′Career Adaptability Questionnaire were used to investigate 341 nursing undergraduates. Results The mean scores of the self-differentiation and the career adaptability were (3.70±0.60) points and (3.60±0.42) points, respectively. It showed that the total score of self-differentiation and its each dimension were positively correlated with career adaptability, the Pearson correlation coefficients were career adjustment 0.26, career interpersonal 0.38, career curiosity 0.32, career confidence 0.39, career concerns 0.27, career control 0.46, and the coefficients between two total scales were 0.46 (all P<0.05). Conclusions The self-differentiation level of nursing undergraduates could affect their career adaptation level, and clinical nursing educators can take corresponding measures to improve their career adaptability based on the characteristics of nursing students′self-differentiation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the relationship among vocational selection anxiety, career adaptability and locus of control in practice nurses. Methods Totally 408 practice nurses from five Tertiary A Hospitals in Liaoning Province were assessed with the Career Adaptability Scale, Locus of Control Scale and Vocational Selection Anxiety Questionnaire. All data were analyzed using the software SPSS 22.0 and AMOS 22.0. Results Career adaptability was negatively correlated with vocational selection anxiety (r=-0.44, P<0.01), chance and powerful others (r=-0.21,-0.21,P<0.01). Chance and powerful others were positively correlated with vocation selection anxiety (r=0.45, 0.44,P < 0.01). The career adaptability could negatively predict the vocational selection anxiety directly and indirectly via the mediating role of chance and powerful others. Conclusions Career adaptability and locus of control could influence the vocational selection anxiety. Chance and powerful others played a role of part-mediating variable in the relationship of career adaptability and vocational selection anxiety.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to review the Brazilian version of the Career Adapt-Abilities Scale (CAAS) obtaining validity and reliability evidences for it. The scale has four dimensions: concern, control, curiosity and confidence. Nine hundred and ninety college students participated in the study (64.2% women), with an age mean of 25.8 years old. The instruments used in this study were a sociodemographic questionnaire and the CAAS. Data were collected both online and on a face-to-face basis. As expected, confirmatory factorial analysis results indicated a satisfactory adjustment for a hierarchical model with four factors (and with one factor of second order). Reliability indices were also appropriate. Limitations of the study are discussed and possibilities for future investigations are suggested.

ABSTRACT

Objective:To develop the College Students'Career Adaptability Questionnaire(CSCAQ)and test its validity and reliability. Methods:Based on the theoretical construction of Savickas for career adaptability and the open questionnaire survey in 136 college students, this study defined the construct of CSCAQ,and compiled the pre-liminary questionnaire.A sample of 935 subjects coming from 6 colleges was investigated with preliminary ques-tionnaire,and the data were used for item analysis and exploratory factor analysis (EFA).A sample of 1273 sub-jects coming from 8 colleges was investigated with formal questionnaire, and the data were used for confirmatory factor analysis (CFA)and the homogeneous reliability. The criterion validity was tested in 437 subjects with CSOAQ.The test-retest reliability was tested in 110 subjects 4 weeks later. Results:The CSCAQ was composed of 35 items in six factors, which were career control, career curiosity, career concerns, career confidence, career adjust-ment and career interpersonal, and the six factors explained 47.89% of the variances.Furthermore, the result of CFA indicated that the model fitted the data with well construct validity(χ2 /df=3.24,GFI =0.92,NFI =0.85,CFI=0.89,IFI =0.89,TLI =0.88,RMSEA =0.04).The CSCAQ and its factors scores were positively correlated with the CSOAQ scores (r =0.29 -0.85,Ps <0.01).The Cronbach αcoefficients were 0.90 for the total questionnaire and 0.64 -0.79 for the 6 factors. The test-retest reliability were 0.92 for the total questionnaire and 0.74 -0.82 for the 6 factors. Conclusion:It suggests that the College Students'Career Adaptability Questionnaire(CSCAQ)is reliable and valid enough to be applicable to measure college students'career adaptability.

ABSTRACT

Vocational literature argues that work experience can impact the career development of young people, although empirical studies are still scarce and inconclusive to support the expectations arising from this theory. Using a longitudinal design (pre and post internship), this study had as its main objective the analysis of the relationship between perceived qualities of the internship experience and student's career adaptability in a sample of 60 high school students. The results suggest that the quality of the internship is relevant for the dimensions of the career adaptability. Finally, the implications of the findings for the career interventions and for future investigations in this domain are presented.
